HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER PROGRAM
The Housing
Authority of Susquehanna County has operated a successful Section 8
Rental Assistance Program since 1979. The program, now named the
Housing Choice Voucher Program, provides safe, decent and affordable
housing to very low income families through rent subsidies provided by
the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
The Section
8 or Housing Choice Voucher Program, is managed out of our Main Offices
in Montrose. We have 253 vouchers to give out for private subsidized
apartments in Susquehanna County. If you are eligible for the Section 8
program you are given 60 days to locate a suitable dwelling within
Susquehanna County.
The new Housing
Choice Vouchers give a family the flexibility to pay more than 30
percent of their income for rent and utilities if they desire. However,
families who are new admissions or move to a new unit cannot pay more
than 40 percent of their income when they move in.
Annual income
is the total money from all sources received by the family head and
spouse and by each additional member of the family. This includes all
income derived from assets and is calculated for the 12 month period
following the effective date of certification. Call the Section 8
office for current income limits.
Applications cannot be mailed. They must be picked up in person at 11 Public Avenue, Montrose.
